Hi there, I'm the webmaster over at Planet-AvP and I'm here to inquire some information in regards to running dedicated servers . Is there any possible providers anywhere and if there isn't what are the steps to take in hosting an effective dedicated server?

In this thread I am taking in ideas for a possible type of server. Seeing as you guys are experienced, perhaps you could come up with some great suggestions in running an active and healthy server.

There isn't (maybe none now..) game server companies that offer avp2 hosting.. (due to many reasons)

but you can host one your self,

The best thing to note is (your upload speed) needs to be good!

and a spare machine/computer would be nice.

Not really, you can run an avp2 server on a Pentium 2 cpu.. (i have in the past)

Remember, your running the 'server' not the game. all you need is the server files.

1Gb ram min would be ok for a few players but it all boils down to your connection.

if you got a spare machine with 2 to 4GB ram 2 or 3 Ghz Dual or Quad you'll be fine.

Remember, this game is 14 years old, specs are not an issue.

it would be easier to rent a small server?
I'm sure if they can find the cheapest.
we do not need a very powerful server just to have a decent connection.
