For those of you who are still interested/know anything about AVP Classic 2000 (the 2010 re-release of 2000's Gold Edition of the original Aliens versus Predator for the PC from 1999), I am working on a mod with a programmer/coder named UberFoX. The mod is aimed at balancing out the game as well as updating it with new features that are sorely lacking. The latest executable release can be found here: Download UMOD HERE
To playtest this mod, simply have the executable running in the background while playing the game.

Below is a list of changes already made.

General

Public Announcement: You will automatically send a message when you join a server informing others that you are using uMod.

Console Commands:
  • HELP: Lists all commands.
  • ABOUT: Gives "about" info for uMod.
  • UMOD: Checks every player in a server to see who is using the uMod and which version they are using.
  • SPECTATOR: Enables specator mode. This makes the player invisible to all players and disallows him/her from attacking them, picking up items, or chatting. This cannot be disabled in the server. To exit spectator mode, the player must leave and rejoin the server.

Species Changer: This feature allows the player to change into any species/specialist with a few conditions. First of all, there is a 45-second cooldown period between changing species/specialists. Also, unlike other species changers, uMod takes into account server restrictions. As such, it only allows changing from/to if the map permits it and if the maximum number of that species/specialist has not already been reached by players. Additionally, uMod takes into account the specific game mode. Hence, the player can't change to/from Predator in Predator Tag, to/from Alien in Alien Tag, to/from Alien in Last Man Standing, or to Alien in cooperative mode. There are no gameplay restrictions in DM or SDM. The scoreboard will maintain the player's current score and uMod will announce to everyone the species/specialist to which you change. This feature saves the player from having to rejoin the game and possibly even failing to rejoin (waiting for description). All species-changing hotkeys are customizable. Changing species in single-player is not allowed.

Bot Loader: This simulates the -lampcxtr command which allows the player to spawn ANY bot he/she wishes in single player and skirmish modes.

Marine

Reload HotKey: The player can now reload his/her weapon when playing as a marine using a customizable hotkey (default is R). It dumps all ammo in the current magazine to switch magazines. There is a reload animation.

No Weapon Jamming: This removes the weapon-jamming feature from all of the marine's weapons. This cannot be disabled.

Predator

Predator Health Rebalance: The predator's health has been lowered to four (4) clusters worth of health instead of six (6). Visually it still spans six clusters worth of health, however, it is 33% lower than normal. This cannot be disabled.

Reverse Cycle Vision Mode: The player can now cycle the Predator vision mode backwards (e.g. from Thermal to normal or Electrical to Thermal) using a customizable hotkey (default is X).

Wristblade Improvement: Primary fire damage has been increased by 200%. Secondary fire damage is unchanged. The blade can now be held in its charged position indefinitely.

Pistol Rebalance: This doubles the cooldown rate of the pred pistol and also doubles the energy cost. You can now fire off only eight shots on full energy instead of 17.

Disc Rebalance: This removes the auto-aiming and tracking feature of the predator's disc. Getting kills with this weapon now requires accuracy. Throwing the disc will leave you temporarily unequipped (you do not automatically switch to the speargun or wristblades), although you can switch to any weapon you like or recall the disc. In the event that someone steals your disc, you will instantly get it back.

SDK

SDK Support: This allows uMod to work with various AvP APIs and provides a few, such as chatting, for users to access.

SDK Commands: This provides uMod with the ability to read commands typed in the game console.

SDK Scripts: This allows uMod users to create their own complex scripts, although limited in terms of what they can do in AvP. A script called "func" demonstrates how to do functions in Sputnik. There is also a _Call() function in the SDK scripting that allows anybody assisting in the SDK development to call any API found in the game to test it or make use of it before it is fully added to uMod.

SDK Script Hotkey: There is a hotkey to run any currently selected SDK script to be tested in-game.

Thanks x-M-x, we're trying. Wink I'd like to get feedback on something. We're thinking about adding a voting system for gameplay mode and map. We don't actually know if this is possible but in the event that it is, I'd like to get feedback before we tackle it. I was wondering if there's a voting system anyone particularly likes. I know AvP2 has the "vv1" system but I'm actually not really sure how that works and I always hated the fact that if you don't know the vv number, you might as well not vote at all. So below is what I'm thinking. Please please please! Let me know if you think this is a good system. Or if you prefer a different one, please explain/describe it for me. Smiley

Command: VOTE_GAMEPLAY_MODE
Announcement: "(Name) has called a vote to change gameplay mode. Please choose: DM, SDM, LMS, ATAG, or PTAG within 20 seconds."
(All users vote)
If consensus is made: Announcement: "Changing gameplay mode to __ ..."
If consensus is not made: Announcement: "No consensus was made. Gameplay mode change aborted."

Command: VOTE_MAP
Announcement: "(Name) has called a vote to change map. Please choose: SEWER, MASSACRE, STATUE, JOCKEY, HIVE, LEADWORKS, HADLEY'S, MEAT FACTORY, NOSTROMO, SUBWAY, LAB 14, COMPOUND, or OFFICE within 20 seconds."
(All users vote)
If consensus is made: Announcement: "Changing map to __ ..."
If consensus is not made: Announcement: "No consensus was made. Map change aborted."

Would be a great idea actually, because avp2 has this 'voting system' in Rommie's mod (which is actually handy for certain players to vote such custom maps.

The vv voting system is.... on the [F4] Servers (but im not sure what server mod that is.. it's not Rommie's or SGB) i think its custom made by [F4] Meatball (owner of the F4 servers)

But like i said rommie's mod has a voting system you can experience it, get some idea's and implement it into AVP99/2000/classic

As for the voting system on game mode? sure why not (people would use it no doubt)

I remember years back though on the [F4] UMP Server there was massive arguments on the voting system players kept voting for this map while another bunch kept voting for that... hilarious.

Keep up the good work man! and get that hosted ASAP ocne its fully finished!

Added observer mode. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uROu_isnpVQ

We now have two different kinds of spectator modes; one that's more like a 'ghost mode' (where you're invisible to everyone else and free to move about the stage) and now this observer mode (where you see through the other players' perspectives). You must leave the server and rejoin in order to jump back into the action.

Recent tweaks:

Lowered pulse grenade damage
Lowered marine health from 200% normal to 150% normal
Raised flamethrower ammo to 200
Restored minigun ammo to 800
The Skeeter rocket launcher now fires a shoulder cannon energy projectile (highly experimental)

Not entirely, some responsibilities that were both ours have now been given to me, though. UberFoX is still plenty involved.

I've started looking into marine weapon alterations. Below are some recent videos I made on the topic that might be of, well, someone's interest, I guess. I'd like to replace the skeeter because frankly it's a shit weapon by default. Pretty much anything would be an improvement over it.

Couple of changes made! Marine health restored to original 100. Pulse grenade damage lowered just a smidge.

Some things need to be pointed out. Pulse grenade damage was raised. Pred health reduced to 50% of its original has some interesting consequences.

Default Game:
Weapon Alien Marine Predator
Wristblade (fully charged, front) ~75% Instant kill ~33%
Wristblade (fully charged, back) Instant kill Instant kill ~66%
Speargun Instant kill Instant kill ~55%
Shoulder Cannon (Direct Hit) Instant kill Instant kill ~40%
Pulse Grenade (Direct Hit) Instant kill Instant kill ~33%
Pulse Grenade (AoE) ~70% ~70% ~20%

uMod:
Weapon Alien Marine Predator
Wristblade (fully charged, front) ~75% Instant kill ~66%
Wristblade (fully charged, back) Instant kill Instant kill Instant kill
Speargun Instant kill Instant kill ~90%
Shoulder Cannon (Direct Hit) Instant kill Instant kill ~75%
Pulse Grenade (Direct Hit) Instant kill Instant kill ~95%
Pulse Grenade (AoE) ~90% ~84% ~80%

Video of how the pred now works in a marine-heavy server:

Actually, we're basically done. Unless there are major complaints and problems about the changes we've done so far, the version we have now is the way it will stay.

Here are some things we didn't get around to doing and why:

Make a uMod for GOG version. Would require too much time and effort.
Increase SADAR damage. Hard-coded, requires source code
Server Obfuscation: Kicks non-umod players (enable/disable toggle). Couldn't figure out a clean way of doing this.
Warden: Kicks players with parameters other than uMod and vanilla AvP (such as godmode, infinite ammo, all weapons, high game speed, jetpack/grappling hook, etc.). Couldn't be arsed to do this, if someone's cheating then play on a private server.
Add chat to observer and spectator mode. Not important.
Allow gameplay mode change. Would cause logistical issues if there was even a single non-umod user.
Allow scoreboard reset. Could be abused in competitive matches, too many logistical issues for non-umod users.
Spectator Mode gets announced to players, removes HUD, adds godmode, and removes falling damage. Not important enough.
Add detonation delay to Grenade Launcher Proxy Mines. Impossible without source code.
Figure out a predator self-destruct mechanism. Probably possible but would cause too many logistical issues.
Get movies to play in multiplayer. Impossible without source code.

Interesting, but what 'source code' ? GOG/CLASSIC Versions?

Damn shame and stupid that they won't Release it.

Hi everyone,

Been a while. I have very important news regarding uMod. Today UberFoX and I are pushing out a version 1.0 release of uMod for Aliens versus Predator Classic 2000.

This latest version has come from years of deliberation over the gameplay and balance changes made five years ago. UberFoX worked incredibly hard coding and implementing many changes that I felt would benefit the game. Ultimately it didn’t pan out that way, and the mod suffered for the inclusion of many things that I thought would help relieve what I felt were long-standing and fixable problems. It took a long time to recognize that the gameplay changes we had included altered too much, and weren’t fun for players who disagreed with one or more changes, and weren’t fun for people when there were modded and unmodded versions of the game in the same match.

For those reasons, all of uMod’s gameplay changes have been removed and we have salvaged the quality-of-life aspects of the mod to make it as close to vanilla AvP’s gameplay as possible. The gameplay and balancing changes didn’t sit right with people, they created too much disagreement, and ultimately the game didn’t feel like AvP anymore. By cutting the mod down significantly, I think we have turned uMod into something that people will find almost universally of benefit. The following are the list of removals:

  • Alien Balancing (New Alien Mobility, Alien Wall Unsnagger)
  • Marine Balancing (“No Weapon Jamming,” Pulse Rifle Bullet and Grenade Damage Increase, Proxy Mine Removal, Skeeter Launcher change, Pistol Damage Increase, Reload Button)
  • Predator Balancing (Health Change, Wristblade change, Pistol change, Disc change, Reverse Cycle Vision Mode)
  • Item-Tripping Removal
  • Higher NPC Damage in single-player
  • Custom Script Support

The following is a list of quality of life features that version 1.0 retains:

  • “Complex” Species Changer
  • Spectator Mode
  • Observer Mode
  • Bot Loader
  • Enhanced Coop (Toggleable)
  • Species Chat Fix
  • Customizable Hotkeys
  • Public Announcement about Using uMod
  • uMod Scoreboard Info
  • Console Commands (HELP, ABOUT, UMOD, SPECTATOR, OBSERVER, COOP, COOP_DISABLE)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Version 1.0 of uMod is available at: http://avpunknown.com/avpclassic/files/mods/umod.zip or http://moddb.com/mods/umod-aliens-versus-predator-classic-2000/downloads/umod1

You can still use the old version(s) of uMod, however, the newest version has the greatest benefit, so going forward we obviously recommend using that.

If you have any questions, feel free to post below.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
16.05.21
Hotfix made, proximity mines were accidentally still removed in the earlier February build, we have now restored them.
