Overview

AvP Requiem – Combat Evolved is a free 2007/8 2D side-scrolling action game developed and published by Gameloft as a browser-based Flash tie-in to Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem. Rather than following the film’s story beat-for-beat, it turns the premise into a pure destruction challenge where you pick either an Alien or a Predator and rampage across modern cities, wiping out everything that stands in your way.

Released as a digital download and web game, it was designed to be quick to pick up and play: short stages, simple controls and instant action, with score-chasing and total annihilation of each city as the main goals.

Gameplay

The game is a classic 2D side-scroller. You choose to play as either a Predator or an Alien and move left and right through urban landscapes made up of skyscrapers, trees and roadways packed with civilians and soldiers. Your job is to tear through the city, carving up ground troops and blowing past defenses while the military responds with helicopters and tanks.

Predators rely on their trademark wrist blades, cutting down enemies in close-quarters, while the Alien tears through crowds with vicious claws and melee strikes. As you march across the level the screen fills with explosions, collapsing structures and incoming fire; juggling enemies and keeping your character alive becomes the core loop.

A simple on-screen display tracks health, remaining lives, weapon status, kills, enemy health and overall score, pushing you to stay aggressive and keep the destruction going. There’s a single standard mode and the focus is on trying to completely flatten each city, rack up a massive score and survive the escalating resistance for as long as you can.

Plot

Combat Evolved keeps its story deliberately minimal and arcade-like. Each stage throws you into a fresh city under siege and simply asks a question: can you destroy everything? As the Alien, you’re a one-creature catastrophe shredding through human populations and their hardware. As the Predator, you become a lone hunter cutting down waves of targets without mercy.

There’s no deep campaign or dialogue – the narrative plays out through the escalating chaos on screen. Human forces escalate from lightly armed citizens to soldiers, then up to helicopters and armored vehicles, but the goal never changes: clear the skyline, crush the resistance and leave nothing standing by the time the last life is spent.
