Overview

Aliens vs. Predator (2010) is a first-person shooter developed by Rebellion Developments and published by Sega for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. It brings the Alien and Predator franchises together again in a modern reboot rather than a direct sequel to Aliens versus Predator 2.

The game takes place on the jungle planet BG-386, home to the human mining colony Freya’s Prospect and a buried Predator pyramid. When Weyland-Yutani’s research into the ruins and captive Xenomorphs goes wrong, Aliens break loose, Colonial Marines are called in, and a Predator hunting party arrives to reclaim their sacred technology.

AVP2010 features three distinct single-player campaigns one for the Colonial Marine, Alien, and Predator which overlap to form a single storyline. On top of that, the game includes a suite of multiplayer modes that pit all three species against each other in asymmetrical combat.

Campaign

AVP2010’s story is told through three interconnected campaigns. Each one follows a different faction Marine, Alien, and Predator but events overlap and echo between them, so playing all three gives the full picture of what happened on BG-386.

Colonial Marine – “Rookie”

The Marine campaign plays like a tense sci-fi horror FPS. You step into the boots of an unnamed Rookie in the United States Colonial Marine Corps, deployed to Freya’s Prospect after contact is lost. Guided over radio by Corporal Tequila and later the synthetic Katya, you fight through dark corridors, jungle outposts, and alien hives while trying to restore power, rescue survivors, and survive escalating Xenomorph and Predator threats.

Alien – “Specimen 6”

The Alien campaign puts you in control of Specimen 6, a Xenomorph bred and studied by Weyland-Yutani. After a power surge triggered by the Predator pyramid disables the facility’s safety systems, 6 escapes, frees the Queen, and helps establish a new hive across the colony. This story focuses on stealth, ambush, and the Alien lifecycle, letting you stalk humans, sabotage the colony, and clash with both Marines and Predators from the creature’s perspective.

Predator – “Dark”

The Predator campaign follows an Elite Yautja often referred to as “Dark”. Sent to BG-386 to investigate the disturbance and recover sacred artifacts, Dark hunts across the jungle, ruins, and human facilities while honoring Predator traditions claiming trophies, cleansing fallen comrades, and ultimately confronting a powerful Predalien threat. The story ties directly into key events seen in the Marine and Alien campaigns, completing the overall narrative arc.

Together, these three viewpoints build a single, continuous story about corporate greed, ancient Predator history, and Xenomorph infestation all colliding on one doomed colony world.

Gameplay & Atmosphere

AVP2010 is built around asymmetrical gameplay: Marines, Aliens, and Predators all control very differently, with unique strengths, weaknesses, and tools. This doesn’t just change your abilities it completely changes how the game feels depending on who you play.

Marine – Survival Horror Shooter

As a Marine, the game leans hardest into survival horror. You carry iconic weapons like the pulse rifle, smartgun, shotgun, and flamethrower, supported by shoulder lamps, flares, and the classic motion tracker. Limited visibility, sudden pings on the tracker, and enemies attacking from vents and shadows create a constant sense of vulnerability even when you’re heavily armed.

Alien – Speed, Stealth, and Verticality

As an Alien, gameplay is fast and predatory. You can run on walls and ceilings, leap long distances, and disappear into darkness. Xenomorphs fight up close with claws and tail strikes and can use senses to detect prey through walls and even see cloaked Predators at short range. Stealth kills and ambushes are central to the experience, turning Marines into prey in their own corridors.

Predator – Tactical Hunter

Predators rely on stealth, gadgets, and precision. Cloaking, multiple vision modes, and “focus jumping” between perches let you stalk from above. Your arsenal includes wristblades, combistick, smart disc, plasma caster, and mines, plus brutal trophy kill finishers that capture the brutality of the films. Playing as a Predator is about choosing when to strike and when to stay hidden, especially with Aliens able to see through your cloak.

Atmosphere

Across all three campaigns, the game focuses on dark, oppressive environments: jungle swamps, rain-soaked colonies, industrial refineries, and ancient Predator ruins. Sharp lighting contrasts, motion tracker audio, and Mark Rutherford’s orchestral score reinforce a mood that swings between military sci-fi and pure horror, depending on which species you control.

Multiplayer

Multiplayer in AVP2010 throws Marines, Aliens, and Predators into the same arena, with each species keeping its unique abilities from the campaign. The result is a chaotic three-way food chain where positioning, awareness, and species match-ups matter as much as raw aim.

Core Modes

Asymmetrical Objective Modes

Combined with the different species’ movement, weapons, and vision modes, these playlists give AVP2010’s multiplayer a very distinct identity compared to standard shooters every match feels like a live-action food chain unfolding in real time.

Community

The Aliens vs. Predator (2010) community on Steam is small, but it’s one of those groups that refuses to fade away. Most of the players who remain are long-time fans of the Alien and Predator franchises, treating the game like a cult classic. The forums aren’t overflowing with activity, but new posts still appear each week usually players looking for multiplayer sessions, sharing fixes for legacy issues, or discussing the campaigns.

Multiplayer is where the game’s age shows most clearly. Matches are still possible, but consistency varies. Some nights you’ll find only a few players spread across multiple lobbies; other nights, a community-organized session fills nearly an entire room with Aliens, Predators, and Marines battling it out. Many active players know each other by name, giving the online scene the feel of a small, close-knit neighborhood.

Dedicated fans often keep the experience alive by hosting events, welcoming newcomers, and sharing advice. The Steam community has produced a number of in-depth guides covering troubleshooting, multiplayer tips, and setup instructions that have largely kept the game functional on modern systems. Outside Steam, players also gather in groups like the AvP Galaxy forums and various Discord servers to coordinate playtimes and maintain activity.

What stands out most is the community’s friendliness. Because the player base is small, veteran players are usually quick to help anyone trying the game for the first time. It’s common to see posts from long-time fans offering assistance, organizing matches, or walking newcomers through multiplayer setup.

In short, the Aliens vs. Predator (2010) Steam community feels like a loyal, long-standing fanbase keeping a beloved classic alive. It may not be bustling by modern standards, but it remains surprisingly active for a 2010 title sustained by nostalgia, dedication, and a shared love for the universe.
