Windows 10 64bit vs AVP 2

Hi guys, glad to see that there's still a community for these old games. Thanks for your support.

I am trying to get the game started on my old laptop (it's weak but has 8 gb of ram and a dedicated AMD CPU) with Windows 10 64 bit. I got the all-inclusive version of the game.

The custom resolution trick works but the game runs like ABSOLUTE GARBAGE, I think its less than 5 fps, both at menu and in-game...it also hangs after some time.

Any ideas?

Hey Romanov,

It's funny that you should ask about this now. I've been literally putting together a video tutorial on how to optimize AvP2 and Primal Hunt on modern computers using dgVoodoo 2.

My video is not 100% yet. I have to fix an out of sync audio problem, but you can get dgVoodoo 2here: http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2.html

If you are not sure how to use it, give me probably the next 24 hours or so to get my video up. It should help guide you.

If low FPS is your only problem, you can use this:

https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/579-windows-881-ddraw-fps-fix/

That dll will only fix fps though. dgVoodoo 2 fixes fps and a lot more.

Thank you for the video, now the game works at 60 fps perfectly.

However I still have unresolved issues:

1) All keybinds were deleted.
I put mine, and while they were recognized by the key bind menu, none of them worked in-game. Basically I cannot move or do anything.
Mouse and keyboard work in the menu, as well as the esc key while in-game. Nothing else works.
Oddly, even the laptop volume and brightness commands seem to be non functional.

2) There's no sound at all, not even in the intro movies.

Make sure your sound is enabled when you launch the game.

As for key bind? use RESTORE TO DEFAULTS.

If you're on a laptop with certain hotkeys/fn keys enabled for it? this will conflict with avp2.

Restoring to default makes every keybind blank again.

Sound works with the laptop and volume is enabled, its just AVP2.
It has various FN functions enabled by default (to press F1-F12 you actually need to press FN first) and I donj't think they can be disabled.

Do you have a HP laptop? Anyways, that FN + F1-F12 combo key is a setting in the bios. If you want to change it, boot into your bios and you will probably have to disable the "action keys".

Yes it is an HP laptop.

I could disable the FN keys, but I wonder what would be the purpose? Volume is up and working before I launch the game.

If you don't want to press to keys to do a quick save, quick load, screenshot, etc then you would disable it. It's up to you.

If disabled, then the volume key would be FN+F7, etc. It flips the functionality.

Will try it, but I don't think it would fix the sound.

Also, I still cannot move or do anything as keybinds do not work  Undecided

sort of related to what you guys are talking about, I haven't been able to take screenshots on avp2 using the usual F8 method for ages. I reckoned it was one of you-know-who's old master patches that was somehow causing it. it's like that function is removed or something.

anyone know anything about that?

TBBC Did this

Quote:
- screenshots are now saved to "My Documents\My Games\Aliens vs. Predator 2" (path is visible in the console)

As for the TBBC issue? meh it's old news like 4 years old news everyone moved on, no problems.
